The Great Stone Haul
Where do you get your Litho Stones? All of mine have come from artist barters, word of mouth, print shop sales, and now the beautiful interwebs. It's fun scouring the internet for art supplies, but the best is hitting a good clean up sale. This Stone Haul came from the Roger LaPelle Gallery in Philadelphia back in 2018. I found a craigslist posting about them cleaning out storage areas and selling a few stones. It was a great find and fun to spend time in the gallery reliving my old first Friday gallery hopping route.
All of my stones aren't in the prime of their lives, but they are perfect for the price. If you are on the hunt for Lithography stones, don't forget to use word of mouth and share what you are looking for with artist friends and social media. Then search craigslist, eBay, offerup, Facebook market place, and your old fashioned Google Search.
You never know what a good stone hunt will bring you. Have you Heard of Gregory Santos of "Mixed Grit"? If you have not, please check out his article about him at Pine/Copper/Lime. Gregory Santos has been shipping stones between participating artists and sharing printmaking knowledge.
